Rooney Printing, a family-owned commercial printer serving the Chippewa Valley in Wisconsin, has been delivering high-quality print for over 70 years. From business cards and banners to custom materials, the company has built a solid reputation across generations printing for schools, businesses and publishers alike.
As demand for print embellishments continues to grow, Rooney Printing had been relying on outside vendors to get them done. To gain greater control over the quality, turnaround, and cost – while trying to expand its specialty book cover business – the company began searching for a solution they could bring internally. “I needed a reliable machine to spot UV,” said William Stuckert, president of Rooney Printing.
Book covers and dust jackets now represent a growing segment of their work. Printed on a six-color Komori press, laminated sheets are spot coated with the DuSense DDC-8000 B2 Raised Spot UV Coater. The value in their recent investment is clear in every project. “We run 20” x 26” sheets but primarily using it for 26” x 23” dust jackets,” Stuckert explained. “We like the ease of setup and consistency in quality. We chose the DDC-8000 over other machines in the market due to price and local service. Also, my longstanding relationship with Duplo and our dealer, American Office Systems.”

Rooney Printing installed the DDC-8000 over a year ago and now produces 100,000 book covers and dust jackets each month. They enhance titles, author names, and design elements with raised textures that make every cover stand out. The investment has cut down on turnaround times and reduced costs, directly improving overall profitability.
Featuring digital inkjet technology, the DDC-8000 applies high-gloss embellishments as fine as 10 microns. It supports sheet sizes up to 23” x 42” and offers the option to add in-line cold foiling. Its wider versatility provides the flexibility to handle both short-run and custom applications.
“Rooney Printing was outsourcing a tremendous amount of spot UV work. They needed a solution to keep profits in-house,” said Jeff Bockelman, regional sales manager at Duplo USA. “Working closely with our dealer along with our technical team and product manager, we successfully implemented this technology to meet their needs. Helping our customers grow and succeed is what we do best, and it’s always rewarding to see the results.”
The company has strengthened its value-added capabilities and positioned itself as a trusted partner for publishers. The investment has proven to be a great step forward for driving their creativity and business growth.
