Mastering Precision: The Role of Duplo’s Registration Mark Technology in DuSense Spot UV Coaters

When it comes to precision in print, one of the common challenges faced by print professionals is image shifting.

The precise alignment of the spot layer with the printed image is a key feature in Duplo Spot UV Coaters. Even a slight misalignment or shrinkage between sheets can compromise the quality of your final print product and it’s a thing you will want to avoid.

For over 20 years, Duplo has maintained a reputation for delivering tight registration across its Slitter/Cutter/Creaser lineup. Its registration mark technology achieves a tolerance of just +/- 0.02mm by using a camera registration system that reads and adjusts with incredible precision. This same technology is found in the DuSense range.

Whether you’re considering the DuSense DDC-8000 B2 or DDC-810 Pro Raised Spot UV Coater (or have the earlier DDC-810 model), rest assured that this technology makes the embellishment process as accurate and efficient as possible. Let’s go over how it works.

What are Registration Marks?

Basically, registration marks are symbols applied to both the CMYK and spot layer files, via a plug-in for Adobe Illustrator, during the prepress process. These marks, positioned 4-16mm from both the side and lead edges, provide a reference point for the Duplo Spot UV Coaters.

How Do Registration Marks Work with Duplo Spot UV Coaters?

The key to precision in finishing and embellishments lies in Duplo’s camera registration system. It detects the registration marks as it scans each sheet and digitally compensates for any image shift. Whether it’s from left to right or top to bottom, the system makes the adjustment automatically and on-the-fly to align the spot layer exactly to each printed sheet. All while keeping up with productivity.

The Duplo Spot UV Coaters do more than just adjust for horizontal and vertical shifts. Additionally, they account for any shrinkage, stretch and skew that occur during printing. Even with changes in paper size, the equipment adapts seamlessly to provide the most accurate sheet-to-sheet registration on the market.

Why is it Important?

It’s essential to achieve excellent registration between your CMYK and spot layers when doing embellished work. Otherwise, you may end up with sloppy output and spot UV outside intended areas. With Duplo’s technology, you get professional results with every run.

Take the guesswork out of the embellishment process with the DuSense DDC-8000 B2 and DDC-810 Pro Raised Spot UV Coaters. Request to see a demo and see it for yourself.
