Duplo’s DC-645 Production Color Finisher demonstrates the full benefits of JDF-enabled workflows at Graph Expo 2006
(Santa Ana, CA: October 15th 2006) Duplo USA is showing its revolutionary next generation intelligent DC-645 Production Color Finisher in a unique web-to-print production workflow environment on its stand #3846 at Graph Expo 2006. The DC-645 will be linked to a Xerox Docucolor 8000 via OASymbio Desktop, a JDF-enabled workflow management software, demonstrating the range of labor and cost saving benefits that can be gained by automating the finishing operation as an integral part of the digital print production process.
The DC-645 is designed to specifically match the output demands of high end production digital presses, and is unique in combining the functions of slitting, trimming and creasing within one single pass whilst automatically compensating for image shift.
At Graph Expo, Duplo’s DC-645 will accept a range of print jobs from the Xerox Docucolor via the OA symbio JDF workflow. Print jobs are submitted in the form of a PDF. These are received by OASymbio which automatically creates a job in the press controller’s queue, and supplies all the necessary job information, such as sheet numbers and media.
Once the job has been printed, OASymbio uses the original job information to send preview images and job data via JDF to the DC-645 JDF Connector, which runs on a PC next to the finishing machine. The JDF Connector provides previews of the job, giving precise operator instructions of how the job is to be loaded. Finally, using the data supplied in the JDF by OASymbio, the application slits, cuts and creases to create the final printed product.
“As the importance of finishing within the print production process continues to increase, more printers are turning their attention to see what cost efficiencies can be achieved by the introduction of intelligent, JDF-enabled finishing technologies. The DC-645, JDF-enabled via OA Symbio workflow software represents a breakthrough in delivering proven automated workflows from conception to print, maximizing efficiencies, optimizing production and offering significant cost saving and new business opportunities for the print provider.”
The vacuum-fed system automatically sets up the tooling to a printed registration mark by using its built-in camera, compensating for the common problem of image drift. This ensures that each processed sheet is finished accurately and that it slits, cuts and creases in precisely the right place, reducing waste and ensuring high quality and optimum output. In addition, an air knife lifts and separates each individual sheet to eliminate the problem of static and facilitates mark-free processing.
The heavy duty DC-645 is capable of handling up to 26 sheets per minute and can accommodate a wide range of paper weights, ranging from 110 to 350gsm.
