Duplo Showcases Its Latest Products and Initiatives At On Demand 2006

Duplo Booth Number 2349 234923

At On Demand 2006, Duplo will be revealing its DC-645 production color finisher incorporating JDF capabilities.  In addition, the show will be the platform for Duplo’s newly launched high performance, affordable suction folder for digital color print, the DF-1000 and Duplo’s powerful in-line fold and tab system, the DT-900 Tabber.

Cutting and Slitting

The JDF compatible DC-645 is driven by Symbio software, a revolutionary and competitive front end production tool, which enables even small-to-medium sized printers to embrace a fully automated JDF workflow environment.  The DC-645 will be used to finish a range of applications at On Demand, including booklets, postcards and greetings cards.

Si Nguyen, product marketing manager, Duplo USA says: “The on-stand demonstrations are designed to introduce printers to the profit saving features and opportunities brought to the industry by JDF (Job Definition Format) and UP3i (Universal Printer Pre- and Post-Processing Interface), which lie at the heart of automated printing.

“The system slits, cuts and creases in just one operation and works on a ‘load and go’ premise whereby the machine receives the information from the JDF job ticket.  It offers the printer a high level of automation and can detect and correct common printing errors, such as image drift.”

Duplo’s DC-645 production color finisher is also appearing as an offline stand alone system on the HP (1424) and Xerox (2100) booths.

As well as housing the JDF/Symbio-driven DC-645 production color finisher, Duplo will also show its DC-545HCEX intelligent cutter and creaser.  Designed specifically for users of digital color presses, this device combines slitting, trimming and creasing in a single pass at 12 sheets per minute.  This will also be featured as an offline system on the Canon booth (1624).

Folding and Binding

The DF-1000 is the new suction folder from Duplo, which is set to benefit commercial and on-demand printers. The folder’s advanced capabilities allow it to produce precisely folded, scratch/mark free material from work printed on both offset and digital presses.  Being the newest addition to Duplo’s digital product portfolio the DF-1000 is perfect for countless applications and is the ideal system for folding direct mail pieces such as brochures, flyers and invitations as well as official documentation for example invoices and letters.

Mr Nguyen comments, “We have designed the DF-1000 to be the ideal folding solution for the color digital printer.  It incorporates suction technology, which tackles common problems faced by digital printers when finishing color work.  For example, it will not mark or scratch the surface of the printed page and avoids the build up of static during the finishing process.”

Duplo will also be revealing its new DT-900 tabbing device at the show, which will be connected in-line with a Duplo DF-920 folder.  The DT-900 Tabber offers a unique folding and tabbing solution, which is perfect for mailing requirements, such as newsletters, double postcards and direct mail pieces.

“This device is ideal for on-demand applications and customers who print variable data or direct mail pieces in-house.  At the touch of a button, mail pieces are securely fastened at speeds of up to 14,400 pieces an hour,” says Mr Nguyen.

Also featured on the stand at On Demand is the MR-720 perfect binder for the on-demand/short run bookbinding market.  This binder is fully automated and thanks to the machine’s intuitive set-up it can automatically adapt to varying book thicknesses in less than eight seconds. Book sizes vary from a minimum cover size of 140 x 200mm up to a maximum of 380 x 650mm and the machine operates at speeds of up to 600 cycles an hour.

Collating and Bookletmaking

In the off-line and near-line bookletmaking arena, Duplo will be presenting its DSF-2000/SCC bookletmaking system, designed specifically for the needs of digital print.  This comprises the DSF-2000 intelligent sheet feeder, a slit, cut, crease (SCC) module, DBM-500 bookletmaker and DBM-500T trimmer.  The SCC module accepts sheets directly from the digital press, trims the non-printed border and creases along the fold line for a full bleed and crack-free finished product.

“This bookletmaking system has been designed to eliminate several manual offline processes, such as creasing and guillotining digitally printed sheets, a revolutionary feature that’s unique to Duplo,” says Mr Nguyen.  Traditionally, digitally printed sheets need to be pre-guillotined before the bookletmaking process, piles often need to be split, which means pages can end up out of sequence.  With the SCC, sheets can be placed straight on to the bookletmaker from the press, intelligently merged and finished in a single pass.”

This product will be available to see functioning as a near-line system with an Indigo 5000 press on the HP stand.

Duplo will be presenting its flagship System 5000 at the show.  Designed to maximize productivity, this fully automatic solution operates at speeds of up to 5,000 booklets and 10,000 collated sets an hour and is extremely versatile, able to feed up to 300gsm covers and a variety of sheet sizes.  At On-Demand, the System 5000 will be shown in conjunction with the 2KT two-knife trimmer, which provides an independent modular approach to trimming all open sides of a booklet, removing the need to pre guillotine printed pages before collating, saving both time and money.

For automation with lower volumes, the System 2000 is Duplo’s entry level system for those wanting high quality but at lower production volumes.  Its DBM-120 bookletmaker offers a self setting size mechanism and staples booklets at up to 2,400 books an hour.

The Duplo Muller system epitomizes on-demand finishing with its extremely high speeds and versatility.  Designed to be connected in-line or off-line to continuous roll/form printers, a Duplo System 5000 bookletmaker, or a folding/inserting system, the Duplo Muller system is the most versatile cut sheet and continuous feeding system on the market.  Modular in its design, Duplo Muller systems are tailored to fit each customer’s specific needs.

Digital Printing

Finally, Duplo will be featuring its high productivity digital printer – the DP-460H.  This high capacity 600 x 600 dpi 11”x17” digital suction fed printer has a 3000 sheet capacity, offset stacking unit and top-rated resolution, which makes it ideal for the print-for-profit high volume user.
